Ph.D. students
We're looking for a Ph.D. student who wants to work on brain-machine interfaces. The project continues our work on somatosensory neuroprostheses and on generalized neural control, using microstimulation of peripheral nerves, the somatosensory thalamus and somatosensory cortex. By generalized neural control we mean stimulating upstream and adjusting until the activity we record downstream matches the response we want.
Training in any of these areas helps. We don't expect any one applicant to have all of them:
Control systems
Neurophysiology and electrophysiology
Animal training
Deep learning and machine learning
The position is in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Houston, so you will need to be admitted to the BME graduate program. If you're interested, email Joe Francis at jtfrancis@uh.edu with your CV and a short description of your research interests.
M.S. and undergraduate students
If you're a UH student looking for a thesis or research project in neural engineering, neuroprosthetics or machine learning for neuroscience, email Joe at jtfrancis@uh.edu with your CV and a short note on what you're interested in and when you're available.
